MacBook Pro won't accept password

My macbook pro wont accept my password. It prompted me to change my password on my phone, which I did, and still wont accept it. Now when I try to enter it into the system settings I get "An unknown error has occurred" My password works on my phone and to sign into my account online. So I know that I'm not inputting the wrong thing. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Thanks for all the information and looking into this! My responses to each of your suggestions below:

Old issues that I just haven't addressed. It first came up when I updated my system to Catalina I believe. After resetting it asked me to log back in and I wasnt able to. (I think that was when it started)

It asked if I wanted to change the password after 'incorrectly' entering it 3 times. When I said I would, it sent my phone a pop up from the system that required my phone password to access (what I normally get when trying to access my details on my phone). It wasn't through text or even through an app.

Confirmed, my CAPs lock is not on.

This is for my Apple ID, not my admin log in.

I am positive I know my password for my apple ID. As you pointed out, I just used it to log into this forum.

My computer is on the older side... 2012.. but I don't see why that would prevent me from being able to connect my apple id.

Any chance you have any other thoughts? I really appreciate the help!
