Why is Mac to Mac File Sharing defaulting to connect with Apple ID instead of saved User/Pass (macOS 12 Monterey)?
Ugh, why does Apple ALWAYS break file sharing with each macOS version? We bought 2 brand new iMacs with macOS Monterey, and went to sent up basic file sharing in a home office.
iMac-1 is set with File Sharing on.
iMac-2 in the Finder window sidebar, click "Network" and iMac-1 is there - great!
Click on it, and it says "connecting..." and then it shows "connected" with Apple ID ... huh?
The shared folder is there, but of course it has "do not enter" symbols on the folders.
So I click "Disconnect" and then "Connect As" and enter the Registered User Name of iMac-1 and the password, click "Save in keychain" and it mounts properly.... great!
But then when I try to save an alias of the mounted volume, or, in the Finder Command-K (Go To Server) to save the SMB://iMac-1.(_tcp._dns-something).local/folder ... and then use it as a shortcut, it fails.
It defaults to connecting using Apple ID on an SMB Mac to Mac File Sharing... even though I've explicitly told it to remember the Registered User Name and Password of a standard SMB connection. Why?
Why, Apple, why can't you just allow file sharing to work as it always has? I really, really don't need any more emoji, and I'd trade them ALL for working File Sharing again.
