Archiving Notes database

Is there a way to archive my current iPhone Notes data, or otherwise protect it from deletion during a phone switch? I found that my iCloud backup seems to be dynamic, in the sense that if I delete something from Notes on my iPhone, the iCloud version mirrors that deletion. My situation is that I’m having to turn in my company iPhone, replacing it with a new personal one. I want to migrate some of the data, including Notes, from that old iPhone to the new, then delete the sometimes personal data from the old phone I’ll be handing back but without the deletion being mirrored on my new iPhone.

You are thinking along the right lines - and your understanding of how iCloud syncs is spot-on - however …

… if you follow these steps w/ your “company” phone you’ll be in good shape.

Note that the procedure has you sign-out of your account (Step 3) BEFORE you erase it (Step 5).

Once the device is signed out, it CAN’T affect what’s on your iCloud.
