Quit in mddle of migration

Just got my MacBook Pro and started the set from my old MacPro. My old computer crashed in the middle so I had to cancel migrations and force restart.

The new laptop shows my profile pic, a spinning loading icon, the standard desktop image, but no way to see a menu to restart the migration.

Should I force restart the new laptop, reset to factory settings or??? Since I can't view any menu, I'm stuck.

I would...

force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Force Shut down your Mac.

Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. Set up your MacBook Pro - Apple Support

The second best way is use the Migration Assistant.

a cable connection is always more reliable and faster compared to a wireless transfer.

if your older computer is having issues you can always move your user account using a Time Machine backup—this backup may also have a USB out for you cable connection.

It appears they are both connected (cable), but it is s l o w. It’s been about 14 hours and migration assistant on laptop says “checking (old computer name) and old computer says “discoverable as (old computer name). I know it’s a slow process but not certain if it should be THIS slow.

I would suspect 45 minutes as a guess to complete...

If your drive is failing in the old Mac or is suspect, use an alternative backup of your user data to populate and setup your new Mac.

I always advocate for—If you value your user data

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.

More than one device, more than one backup methodology.
