How can I reinstall my data on MacBook Air so that mail will index correctly?

Since I bought my new MacBook Air in May 2022, my mail search will not work. I uninstalled everything on the MacBook and now want to reinstall so that mail indexes correctly. How can I insure this will happen?

The Mail app is part of the system so to reinstall the app you'd have to reinstall the system. Is that what you did? How did you reinstall your user data?

Also describe in detail what isn't working, how you're searching and any fixes you've tried so far.

I tried rebuilding the mailboxes. In my work I really depend on being able to access old mail, so I erased everything last night.

I am now starting the recovery, but I am fearful to reinstall old data because I don't want to trigger the problem I have had since I bought the computer about 3.5 months ago. I use four different emails (1 Mac, 2 gmail, and 1 aol). It was suggested that I

try just having the Apple mail in the Mac app and using another app for other emails. Is that a possibility?

I am trying to remember if I used Monterey on my old computer, but I had no problem. Is it possible to separate

spotlight from Mail search, so that only Mail will be searched?
