Trying to set up old apple watch with new iphone...keeps getting stuck on software updates.

Anyone know what to do when setting up old apple watch to new iphone and keeps getting stuck on software updates.. My phone is updated. have rebooted both devices. have looked for any old files to be deleted.

Did you unpair the watch from your old phone first?,a watch can only pair with one phone at a time.
