iPhone XR making calls by itself

Hi, I have my phone locked with a passcode and face recognition so how, when it’s in my pocket, or even sitting on charge, can it make calls by itself?

This is getting infuriating now. I was out to lunch and received anxious calls from two contacts who received calls from me but couldn’t hear what I was saying. Someone I was with said “oh, excuse me, my phone’s ringing”, only to then exclaim that it was me! When I checked my phone, it was making a call by itself!

If anyone can tell me how to stop this, I’d be very grateful. Thanks 😊

Hello XR-user,

It sounds like something is causing a pocket dial to people that you may have listed as your emergency contacts. Do you recall if you ever set up emergency contacts on your iPhone? If you're unsure, you can look at the 'How to edit emergency contacts' section of this page: Set up your Medical ID in the Health app on your iPhone - Apple Support. If there are people listed here, this may have caused the issue. If so, check out the 'How to set up your Medical ID' section on the same page.

If you want to remove an emergency contact, follow these steps:

Remove emergency contacts
1. Open the Health app and tap your profile picture .
2. Tap Medical ID.
3. Tap Edit, then scroll to Emergency Contacts.
4. Tap the Delete button  next to a contact, then tap Delete.
5. Tap Done to save your changes.

You can find those steps (and more) here: Use Emergency SOS on your iPhone - Apple Support.

Cheers!

XR-user,

Got it. Next, check to see if any Attention Aware features are turned on for your iPhone. If they are, try turning them off and then test for the issue again:

If you don’t want to use these features, open the Settings app, tap Face ID & Passcode, then turn off Attention Aware Features.

You'll find more information here: Turn Attention Aware features on or off on your iPhone or iPad Pro

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!
