macOS Monterey Server.app "To update Server on this Mac, click Continue"

I have a Mac mini 2018 running macOS Monterey 12.4. This server was upgraded a while back from macOS Catalina. I'm pretty certain at that time I ran the then current Server.app version.

The main remaining use of Server.app is Open Directory. Other Macs are bound to OD. Syncing of clients depends on it too.

When I now start Server.app it says: "To update Server on this Mac, click Continue". I am worried what this 'update' will do (given Apple and all that), above all: will it destroy my OD? What will this 'update Server' do?

I haven't updated to 12.5 because for two Macs (Mac mini 2018, iMac 2019) where I did this, the system became extremely unreliable and some user Preferences had to be removed as they triggered a crash of the WindowServer on login. Basically, I have become very weary about the quality and stability of what Apple produces these days, especially for x86 machines. So for now I keep my hands off as much as I can. But today, the system started to hang, i.e. it could be pinged, but it would not react to any TCP/IP port and it was impossible to log in or interact. Only a hard reset (twice now today) could get it back. So, I was looking into it ad noticed this Server.app update.
