CarPlay and reading messages (NOT aloud)

I'm struggling with reading messages (iMessage, WhatsApp etc.) in my car. Don't get me wrong, CarPlay is great and functions well, but for me it has a serious limitation: I regularly use at least four languages in messages. Thus, no matter what language I'd set Siri to speak it would be wrong most of the time, and read some incomprehensible stuff to me. I can't be alone with this issue, there must be others (e.g. in regions/languages where Siri isn't available), how have you solved this?

I'd just want an option to display the message as TEXT on the screen. Now I need to pick up my phone to do this (when parked or stopped, of course), which feels quite silly. I quite understand the design philosophy here but there must be a fallback...
