My computer does not recognize my iPod Classic though it is plugged in via the USB port. I bought this iPod several years ago to replace my old one and am just now wanting to load it with my own music CDs

The Apple Store sells hardware. Latest version isn't specific enough. Are you running iTunes on Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11? The iTunes - Apple page will try to redirect you to the Microsoft Store if it can. It seems some users with the current build (12.4.4.1) from the Microsoft Store seem to have trouble with older devices. Swapping to the standalone installer, or perhaps switching to the previous build, or the one before that, may be a possible workaround.

See the very bottom of the page at Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community for download links for recent versions of iTunes.

MY SOLUTION is the following after purchasing a new laptop with WIN 11

a) Installed iTunes, didn't come with the new version before, so it's now 12.12.4.1 (12.11.3.17 was loaded first)

b) Device was not recognized via USB port at first !! I then used an old "real" Apple cable !!

While the -wrong- cable is good for charging, etc.

Result.... WIN 11 and my new laptop suddenly saw the Ipod Classic (15 years old), but had to

update the USB ports software. OK clicked and

Everything works perfectly now. So use an original Apple cable (USB with wide Apple plug).

So IPOD CLASSIC and WIN 11 should be able to work.

Load the latest software and .............. use an original Apple USB cable !!

The connection software must also be up to date (notification comes automatically).
