Monterey 12.5.1 Update - Time Machine no longer works

Upon restart after the update, I get the following behavior.

  • The normal prompt appears requesting the password to enable (TM is encrypted)
  • Upon putting the correct password in, there is no response for several seconds; then the prompt disappears and the Time Machine disk subsequently unmounts (or disappears from the desktop)
  • After a moment it appears again on the desktop, but this error message pops up:

Everything was working normally before the update.

I just finished bring five Macs up to 12.5.1 with zero issues.

If it were me, I'd do as the panel says and go from there. You don't really have a choice, and this could be a glitch that never repeats. But then, how old is the external drive? It may have a problem not related to an OS change.

Have you tried it one a different conputer? Apple or Windows
