downloads error "failed - disk full" however disk is far from full

downloads error "failed - disk full" however disk is far from full.

I downloaded into an external HD, and then dragged it to the download folder in the internal HD and it wasn't a problem. Why can I do that and have space to do so, but it's says I don't have space, i.e. "disk full" when I try to download direct from the internet into the default download folder? Thanks....

Hi Kevin Devine,

We'd like to start my recommending you first make sure you have all the latest security updates for macOS Catalina. We'll place a link below showing the updates, and making sure you have the most recent update as well, macOS 10.15.7. What about running First Aid? If you haven't tried this step, we recommend this step since it looks for and repairs errors.

Either or both of these may help with the error message you are seeing.

Take care!
