HomePod Mini sound

My HomePod mini’s sound seems to be a little flatter every day. Is there really no way to adjust bass and treble? Sounds like I went back in time and listening to a transistor radio. I want my 1970’s stereo system back. This mini was sounding ok. Now it seems a little worse everyday. I’m old so I just tested it. Played “Paint It Black”. Could barely hear Charlie’s drums. Played Dusty Springfield and couldn’t hear her breath.

How do I adjust treble and bass?

You can adjust the bass in the home app, long press on the HomePod icon, scroll down to be sure Reduce Bass hadn’t been enabled . Treble can’t be adjusted. Regarding old recordings though; most of them don’t sound very good on HomePods unless they’ve been remastered. But even then they just don’t compare to newer recordings that we’re made with modern speakers in mind. Pink Floyd sounds good as does Doris Day. You can also recalibrate them by moving them around. Pick it up and give it a slight swirl then place back down. Real, denser wood provides deeper bass as well. Experiment with different surfaces. Try to keep it away from corners or close to walls or other objects. Apple recommends “Place HomePod mini or HomePod on a solid surface with at least 6 inches of space around it.”

i get it. I preferred the previous model of the bigger HomePod. Sadly it was discontinued. I still have 3 and the bass is very deep. I will cry when these break! There is no equalizer, only the “reduce bass” option. Something people living in apartments might prefer. Some have said they can use the EQ on their devices to AirPlay to HomePods and it works. I have not been able to get that to work with them. They’re ok for my bedroom Apple TV, I have two paired as stereo sound. Newer music has better sound. I listen to new and old.

Thank you. I will move it and see if it’s better. Come to think of it I moved it when I started getting really annoyed with the quality.

I don’t really want to reduce bass. I want more bass and treble. An equalizer would be nice. I guess my expectations are too high.

I was never really happy but it went downhill when I moved it to keep the cats from turning it on. Then the husband took one of my HomePods so he could watch upcoming football in stereo. Said it was better than his soundbar. Now two of my three speakers is dedicated to the TV. 🤬

If I still had my hundreds of vinyl albums I deeply regret getting rid of, I think I would try to buy another system. I’ve bought vinyl, cassette(ugh), owned reel-to-reel and CD’s. I’ve bought the same albums over and over in different formats. I don’t mind progress but sometimes it’s not progress, it’s just new. I’ve spent so much just trying to listen to music.

My mother is 96. Loves music but gave up. Will not adopt any new way of listening to her music even though she has an iPad. She said it’s too much trouble now. Poor woman lost music. Used to always be singing. I may give up too one day. It is getting too difficult sometimes.

I also deeply miss liner notes. I have to do a search who is playing what on different tracks, and various other info I used to have at my fingertips. Sigh.

Sorry. I’m done with my rant.

Thank you.
