Two air tags - one refreshes location, one does not

I have two apple airtags. Air tag 1 is on a watch on my daughters wrist. Air tag 2 is in my boyfriends wallet. My daughter I tracked real time on a trip with her dad about 4 hours away, no issues. Air tag 2 only shows me last known location from three hours ago. Can anyone tell me why one provides current location tracking and the other one doesn't?

A few possible scenarios why you might not see your boyfriends tracker. (Not all inclusive)

1) Boyfriend doesn’t have iPhone

In this case it would only be “found” by the phones of various strangers.

2) Boyfriend’s iPhone does not have FindMy network “on”

3) Boyfriend sitting on Airtag blocks the VERY weak signal. (It only covers about 30’ in clear air)

There are other possibilites … but you get the point.
