iphone SE3 loses charge after fully charging to 100% and on the charger

This is really weird. My iphone SE3 is only 2 1/2 months old, but it has started doing this oddball discharging while on the charger.

For example, my phone had been on the charger for several hours yesterday evening while I was using it as a hotspot. I turned off the hotspot and went to sleep with the phone showing it was 100% charged.

This morning my phone showed 66% charged while still connected to the charger (genuine Apple). The battery icon showed the lightning bolt indicating it was still connected to the charger. I looked at the battery health in Settings, it said my battery is 100% good, and charge history showed the charge declining from 100% down to 66% from around midnight until about 10 am.

I unplugged the lightning cord blew in the iphone socket, and plugged it back in. It charged back up to 100% in the normal amount of time.

Attached are screenshots showing what the iphone system>battery and program usage shows.

Is my iphone defective? Am I missing something? I'm coming up on 90 days and want to get it fixed/replaced while under warranty if this means the phone is bad.

No, I’m saying (not suggesting) that if the phone is running apps that require more than 5 watts, a 5 watt charger can’t supply enough energy to both charge the phone and supply power to whatever app it is, plus maintain a 5G, which uses much more energy than LTE. As a simple test, try a 12 watt power source, or the recommended 20 watt USB-C power source.

If the hotspot and 5G was on, it makes sense that it could draw more than a 5W cube charger will supply.

I tried it with a 2.1 amp charger, and it didn't do the discharge thing last night.

But that's the thing - some nights it works fine, and then it will do this weird discharging thing for no apparent reason.

Did you get that it is discharging when the hotspot is OFF, and almost nothing is running, except I suppose email checking and other background stuff. That's why I included the screen shots - look at the first one. Nothing is going on and the battery is going down starting right around midnight, and I went to sleep about 10 pm.

Other suggestions?

Well, did it again last night on a 30 watt charger with the hotspot off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Can the "optimized battery charging" setting do this?

If my phone has "intelligently decided" it should charge my phone during the daytime instead of at night, could that be doing it?

Why does it do it some nights and not others?

I THINK (not sure, but I think that may be accurate) the times it does the discharge-on-the-charger thing it are when the phone is on the charger at night and the phone is alread

y at greater than 80% charged.

Then why doesn't it keep the charge at 80%? It goes lower than that until I unplug the charger and plug it back in.

WEIRD!!!!!
