Found it with help.....Preferences/ Mission control/Hot corners. Turn it off. Easy peasy.

Sorry, it's the bottom right corner... Dahh
It sounds like a remnant of an app that did not fully close or one that was uninstalled but the login startup process was not halted.
Something unwanted seems to be running in background. The hard part will be identifying that in Activity Monitor. Do you have apps set to auto start? If so, disable them all and see if it goes away. If it does restart then one at a time, restart, and see if the box comes back.

Glad you figured it out- just so you know, it's Quick Note, which allows you to quickly start typing a note.

A screen print mighty be helpful.
Bottom left corner of the screen on my Mac desktop.
It interferes when you try and get out of full screen after watching a movie etc.
It's not major, but I never use Notes.
