Is it possible to transfer large data (1,8 TB) from one HD to another?

I have a new hard drive with 4 TB, which I will use for TimeMaschine backups in future, since my old HD is almost full with1,8 TB. Is there a way to transfer my "old" TimeMaschine backup data from the 2TB HD to the 4 TB HD?

If do it by drag & Drop I get a stop sign...

Thanks a lot for you input,

Did you correctly format the drive before trying to copy the backup?

How is the current backup drive formatted? You can see the format in Get Info.

If Mac OS Extended, then it might be possible to copy and inherit.

If APFS, then you cannot copy it. You cannot copy the new format, and you can’t use the drive for anything else.

I would just start anew on the new drive. If you think there could possibly be something on the old backup you might need, store the old drive somewhere safe.
