Mac mirroring to TV via HDMI has stopped working

Hi,

I have previously successfully connected my MacBook Air (M1) to a JVC smart TV via an HDMI cable to mirror my MacBook screen, but it has stopped working. I have no idea how to fix it but the following applies:

  • The TV HDMI ports are working as when i move the HDMI cable between ports they become active
  • The adaptor i'm using works with a smart TV in a different room & i can successfully mirror my MacBook to the TV
  • The display is detected by my MacBook as the display menu changes when i plug it in and i can select "mirror for built in display" (see picture). Despite this I get a "no signal detected" message on my TV

I'm stumped! It used to work fine with no issues and i don't know what has changed

Hey there kthms83,

As you mentioned that the screen works without needing to switch HDMI ports on the second TV you tested, this does point towards the first TV as the cause, regardless if it worked in the past or not.

While you may need to reach out to JVC support to continue troubleshooting this, we'd like to help rule out some possible causes first:

  1. As you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 12.5.1. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. This link will show how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac
  2. Have you checked for any firmware updates for your JVC TV? If you don't know how, you'll need to reach out to them to obtain the steps to check for one.
  3. Sometimes, a restart is all that's needed to resolve an issue, and we recommend trying one if you haven't yet. Check out the section 'Restart' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

Cheers!
