Thunderbolt 3 will not connect ethernet on MacBook Pro M1

The Apple Thunderbolt 3 ethernet adapter attached to my 2020 MacBook Pro M1 (Monterey 12.5.1) will show a "green" connected Thunderbolt status - but will not actually connect to the ethernet ?? I have let it connect both automatically and manually - still will not work?? I need a wired connection for my work site - so WiFi will not suffice.

Please help!!

launch a Browser and enter:

1.1.1.1 in the address bar and press return

If you get the CloudFlare* splash page, you like have a Domain Name Server (DNS) issue

*CloudFlare is not part of the solution here, they just own the simplest to remember numeric IP address known to always answer.
