MacBook Air does not detect external displays

MacBook Air is connected to a ThinkPad hybrid USB-C with USB-A. It detects the mouse and keyboard but not the external displays. I just downloaded MacOS Big Sur 11.6.8

macOS Ventura no longer detects external monitors?! For years I've used an Anker USB-C to HDMI adapter to connect my iMac Pro to an external monitor or a projector. This no longer works in Ventura. I even bought a new 8K USB-C to HDMI cable and it still doesn't work. System Settings > Displays shows only crappy AirPort connections in the dropdown menu. No HDMI options ever appear, and I've tried three viable displays. And no, unhiding the Detect Displays button does nothing. Restarts don't help either. What is going on? Was this a showstopper bug that still hasn't been fixed in 13.2.1?

Remote display is not working. It appears that the USB-c ports on my iMac running Ventura stopped working, the display works as well as the cabling, those were verified with another computer. I have tried a different peripheral and it is not working. My mac works just fine but I cannot get the displays to run. Running Ventura 13.1
