Imported Music Not being loaded in Apple Music 1.2.5.7

When I create a library (using a .itl file that was copied from a Windows PC) in Apple Music. It creates the library but only shows the music downloaded from iTunes and not any converted/imported music. Also Playlists that are created in Windows also do not appear. This occurs regardless of device. Macbook Pro and iMac.

It appears that the current version of Apple Music (1.2.5.7) and Monterey will only display / play Apple music only which is either streamed of purchased. I do not have a subscription to Apple Music.

Does that mean for my library to be sync'd with imported (my own) and converted songs I must subscribe to Apple Music?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.5

Salutations festivus23,

Do be sure you’re actually bringing the music files and not just the .itl file with you when you go to move your library. Here’s more on how to do that - Move your iTunes library to another computer

Consolidate your files in the iTunes folder
You can consolidate all the files in your library in the iTunes folder to make it easier to move your library to a new computer.
1. In the iTunes app on your PC, choose File > Library > Organize Library.
2. Select “Consolidate files.”
Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the iTunes folder.

Back up your library and media files
Important: It’s highly recommended that you create a backup of your library.
By default, the iTunes Media folder is stored in your iTunes folder:
[User folder]\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
1. In the iTunes app on your PC, choose Edit > Preferences, then click Advanced.
2. Note the location of your iTunes Media folder in the “iTunes Media folder location” section.
3. Quit iTunes.
4. Navigate to your iTunes folder in File Explorer.
5. Drag the iTunes folder from its location to an external drive.

That iTunes Media folder is where all the files should be located after you consolidate your files.

So then when you go to move the library that .itl file will be inside the iTunes Media folder but you’ll need to move both. Are you finding that to be the case?

Thanks.

Hi AnnieL2

Thank you for helping me with this. I have my music library hosted on an external drive and point Apple Music to where it is. I copy both the itl file as well as the xml file as this is used for another application (Virtual DJ) that needs it to read the playlist/library.

This has been working fine for previous incarnations of Apple Music (iTunes). This issue has only occured in the last update of either Monterey or else Apple Music. The last time it worked was the 5th August 2022 since the update Apple Music app, has restricted what is loaded from that .itl file. That file is currently 26MB in size.

Neither the app I am using Virtual DJ nor Apple have provided a suitable workaround.
