My Apple Watch 7 disconnects from home Deco mesh Wi-Fi network

I leave my phone in one room and go to another room with different Deco m5. My watch for some reason does not connect to that deco and I need to connect it manually. Then if I go to another part of home with another deco m5 ( all same wifi name) and my watch disconnects again. Manually connecting to Wi-Fi works. Any ideas why this happens?

Hi mm4653,

When this happens is your Apple Watch connected to your iPhone using Bluetooth or is your iPhone out of range? Are you using a GPS + Cellular model? We ask since behavior is a bit different depending on model and whether or not your iPhone is paired via Bluetooth. The article above, About Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cellular on your Apple Watch - Apple Support, mentions the following.

"Your Apple Watch uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to communicate with your paired iPhone. If you have cellular, your watch can also stay connected through a cellular network. Your watch switches between these intelligently to choose the most power-efficient connection. Here's how:

  • Your Apple Watch uses Bluetooth when your iPhone is near, which conserves power.
  • If Bluetooth isn’t available, your Apple Watch will try to use Wi-Fi. For example, if compatible Wi-Fi is available and your iPhone isn't in Bluetooth range, your Apple Watch uses Wi-Fi.
  • If Bluetooth and Wi-Fi aren't available, and you set up a cellular plan, cellular models of Apple Watch can connect to cellular networks."

If the same continues and it seems that your Apple Watch should be automatically joining the network using the information above, try unpairing then pairing your Apple Watch again. This might help refresh your settings and resolve the issue. You'll find the following guidance in Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support.

"How to unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone

  1. Keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together as you unpair them.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Go to the My Watch tab and tap All Watches.
  4. Tap the info button  next to the watch that you want to unpair.
  5. Tap Unpair Apple Watch.
  6. For GPS + Cellular models, choose to keep or remove your cellular plan.
    • If you want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, keep your plan.
    • If you don't want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, remove your plan. If you aren't going to pair with a different watch or iPhone, you might need to contact your carrier to cancel your cellular subscription.

7. Tap again to confirm. You might need to enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock. Before erasing all content and settings on your Apple Watch, your iPhone creates a new backup of your Apple Watch. You can use the backup to restore a new Apple Watch. After your Apple Watch unpairs, you'll see the Start Pairing message.

8. Set up your Apple Watch again."

Take care.

Hey there mm4653,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

To confirm, you have multiple Wi-Fi networks in the same location with the same Wi-Fi name? If that is the case, is the Watch still connect to one Wi-Fi network when you want it to connect to another? If it is still connect to one Wi-Fi network and you want to connect it to another, you may need to manually connect it to the other network as you are doing.

If you wanting your Watch to Auto-Join one network over the other, turn on Auto-Join for that network in Settings > Wi-Fi on your Watch. Look here:

Thanks for getting back to us with that information, mm4653. It’s appreciated.

Let’s see if this behavior continues if your Apple Watch is set up as a new Apple Watch.

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support -- Unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone (which will create a new backup of your Apple Watch). After it’s been unpaired, pair it again with your iPhone, but instead of selecting the backup to set it up with, set it up as new. Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support. Does it automatically connect when your iPhone isn’t nearby?

If it doesn’t, is your Wi-Fi network set up with these recommended settings? Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.

Hi Rob_H1,

Thank you for your answer.

"To confirm, you have multiple Wi-Fi networks in the same location with the same Wi-Fi name? " - Yes. Tp-Link Deco m5 mesh wifi network

"If that is the case, is the Watch still connect to one Wi-Fi network when you want it to connect to another?" - It's not that I specifically want to use one ore the the other. I go to another room. My Apple Watch loose connection with the Deco m5 it was connected to but do not automatically connect to the Deco m5 that is a meter away from me. Auto-Join for that network in Settings > Wi-Fi on my Watch was and is ON. It does not help.

Appreciate any other suggestion to fix it.

Thank you

When this happens iPhone is out of Bluetooth range but near Wi-Fi Deco m5. iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi. Unpairing and pairing again Apple Watch did not really help . Sometimes watch is connecting to Wi-Fi and sometimes it’s just being disconnected even though I am near Deco m5. My watch has cellular but it is not enabled.

Any other ideas? Thanks
