FWIW, the MacBook6,1(Late 2009) & MacBook7,1(Mid 2010) can run up to macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra. Both should be able to connect to iCloud.
But iOS is for iPhones & iPads, MacOS is for Macs. :)
As a test, open Messages>Preferences>iMessage, can you sign into that there?
Reset your Mac. That problem usually only happens to a Hackintosh so try reset it and if that don't work then take your Mac to an apple store. Before you reset your Mac back it up on time machine
what i mean is if it gets the recent software
tue last update is the 2020 security update and it wont let me sign in
