Turn on AppleTV via HDMI-CEC

Long story short I want to turn on my Apple TV via HDMI-CEC.

I am hoping to do this by turn on my TV and switching to the correct HDMI. When this occurs I want my AppleTV to turn on.

Per Apples support page this should work

Sleep or wake Apple TV - Apple Support

“When you’re finished watching, you can put Apple TV to sleep.

If your TV or audio/visual receiver supports HDMI-CEC, your Apple TV automatically goes to sleep when you turn off your TV or receiver and wakes up when you select its HDMI input on your TV or receiver. You can also turn your TV or receiver on or off with the Siri Remote. See Control your TV and volume with the Siri Remote.”

I am able to turn the TV and and off by using the Siri remote so I am confident that the HDMI CEC in on. In addition if I turn my TV of the AppleTV will also turn off.

any idea why turning the TV on will not turn on/wake up the AppleTV?

That can mean there is an issue with the CEC implementation, as each TV manufacturer has their own version it will be up to them to fix. You can check to see if the TV has any firmware update, consult the manual and contact their support staff as needed.

Verify that CEC is activated (turned on) on all applicable HDMI devices.

For Apple TV: Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Control TVs and Receivers﹥On

For the TV: See its manual.

As far as I can tell, it is designed to work the other way around: Waking the Apple TV box, would wake the TV. Setting the Apple TV box to sleep, would send a signal to the TV to do the same. Control your TV or receiver with your Apple TV Remote - Apple Support.

CEC support on devices depends on how the TV manufacturer implemented it. CEC support may differ by brand and model. When in doubt, consult with the Support staff of the TV manufacturer, about interaction with connected devices.

Thanks for the tips.

I have done all this and verified that the TV HDMI-CEC setting are working as waking the AppleTV does in fact turn on the TV.

Just very puzzled as to why it will not work the other way around.
