When a bill comes due in iTunes, it will first attempt to pay using a balance in the account. After exhausting the balance in the account, the method of payment on record will then be charged. If you would prefer that your credit card or other form of payment on record not be charged, you can redeem a gift card into your account so that there is always a sufficient balance on account to cover the monthly bill.
