Shutting Down a MacBook While It Is Starting Up Internet Recovery Mode

Yesterday I turned on my MacBook while holding down "D" to get into Internet Recovery Mode. Because my Wi-Fi network was extremely slow, my screen had only been showing an icon of a spinning globe with a message below it saying "Starting Internet Recovery. This May Take a While" for over two hours. I decided to turn off my MacBook and then turn it back on. I was told that I some of my data saved locally may get lost. When I logged in, it seemed that everything was the way it was before I went into Internet Recovery Mode.


I am curious to know if anybody has lost some of their data from shutting down their MacBook while it was starting up Internet Recovery Mode. If so, should I be concerned?

No— to get to Internet Recovery you need to shut down/ restart to begin with... so your data has already been in a saved state.




If you are having wifi issues to begin with —this is probably not your best option !

No— to get to Internet Recovery you need to shut down/ restart to begin with... so your data has already been in a saved state.

I may not have been specific enough, but when I said that everything seemed to be the way it was before I turned my MacBook back on, I meant that my desktop showed everything that it showed before I restarted my MacBook to get into Internet Recovery mode. After I shut down my MacBook while it was starting Internet Recovery mode, I turned it back on like I normally would; I wanted to see if any of my data had been deleted.


What I am really trying to ask is whether or not turning off a Mac while it is in the middle of starting Internet Recovery mode is safe to do so. Could it damage the hard drive or the operating system?
