malicious software warning

Hi

Somehow Chrome and Spotify stopped working on my Mac. I followed advice to delete the apps and reinstall. Now I get a warning box that says neither can be opened because they can't be checked for malicious software. I attach a screengrab of the warning. I can't get beyond this. How do I fix it? Thanks.

MacBook, macOS 12.5

Thank you! I had to click open despite the warning but going int his way did at least me open them. It never used to work that way before. I just clicked on the app via launchpad. Is there something that I've done wrong to have to go round the houses like that or is it just how it works now ( which seems very odd.)

You are welcome 🇨🇦

Not sure what exactly is meant by " It never used to work that way before " ?

Apple has given Developers ample time to submit their Applications to Apple for approval and if the Developers have not availed themselves of this opportunity - that leaves the User ( you ) in this predicament of jumping through Hoops to get the software to function.

If it were my computer, I would chase after the Developers to comply with the Apple Eco-System Rules to make the User Experience less complicated IMHO

Google and Spotify should definitely not display this warning. You should probably check your computer for malware. A common tactic is to trick users into downloading from fraudulent websites. They can even wrap popular apps in fake copies so that the apps looks and runs like Chrome. But the there are malicious components installed to siphon off your data that would normally be encrypted.

Good point by previous poster but you have specifically mentioned Download Directly from Developers

To be on the safe side >>

There is Adware & Malware which will affect the computer and is generally downloaded from “ Shady “ Websites or Developers who Inject this software into the download.

Should “ Certain & Specific Software “ referenced from above be installed - it will negatively impact macOS. It is suggested, download directly from the Developer , the application Malwarebytes for Mac

It is free or paid for added features.

Run the Application and it should remove the malware / adware. Once done, restart computer and test.
