Changing ID & Password

A friend has split with her husband and he refuses to give her the icloud password as they are on a shared a/c. Her Id is husbands email address and the password is one he has created and now wont give it her as he tracks her all the time.

If she tries changing Id or password then he gets notified which will create aggro.

How can she change the id and password to her own without him getting notified? If she got a new phone say a Iphone 13 would she lose all her data ie Photos, contacts etc or can she save them somehow?

She can create her own Apple ID, although she would lose access to some data and all prior purchases.

When changing to the new ID, make sure you turn off Find My Phone before signing out of the old ID. Once signed out and Find My Phone is off, then sign in with the new ID, then turn Find My Phone back on. There may be some data loss, but you can minimize it If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
