Unlock mac locked by find my mac

Hi,

So my aunt has a macbook air and an iphone, however she uses different icloud accounts for each one. She's locked herself out of her macbook air. I have her icloud account and password that she has logged into it with, but when I go to icloud.com/find to unlock it, it tells me that the iphone is not logged into the same account and gives me no options to get the 4 digit pin. how can this be unlocked in this case? I have all the required information, but it's not giving me the option to unlock it. I do not have access to the OS since it is icloud locked, it just boots to the "This mac has been locked with find my mac" screen. any thoughts on this?

Thank you for those details, jeffro25.

It sounds as though you may have visited the website on an iPhone which would be why you saw Find My iPhone. The prompt to sign in to the Apple ID is a prompt asking for the Apple ID the iPhone is signed in to. When visiting the iCloud website and walking through the steps previously provided, you would want to do so from a computer.

Have a great day!

Hi jeffro25,

Thanks for connecting with us today. Having access to your devices are important. You'll want to make sure that you're entering the Apple ID and password that was used to set up your aunt's MacBook Air so that you can unlock her device. You can see more about this here: How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support

Remove Activation Lock on the device
Follow the onscreen steps to enter the Apple ID and password you used to set up your device or your device passcode.
Learn how to find your Apple ID or reset your Apple ID password.

Remove Activation Lock on the web if a device is offline
1. Go to www.iCloud.com/find.
2. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
3. At the top, click All Devices.
4. Select the device that you want to remove from iCloud.
5. Click Remove from Account.

When you go to the iCloud website, make sure that you choose the option to sign in with the different Apple ID.

Take care.

Hi, Thanks for the response! So I went to icloud.com/find and it asked me to log in. I found it odd that it said "Find my iPhone" on the login screen, when I am looking for a macbook air. When I logged in it simply said "Your Apple ID <EMAIL HERE> is unable to view this application. Please sign in with the Apple ID used on your device." This is the apple id used on the device. There is no option to select any other devices. Nor is there an option to sign in with a different apple id. not exactly sure what to do here! Any advice?
