Read Receipts Randomly turning back on for 1 contact.

For the last 6 to 10 months, there is one person that I text with the most. I have read receipts off, globally, in the settings. RANDOMLY, this 1 contact will ask me why I turned back on read receipts. This has happened 5 times in this time period. I will go to the contact info, and sure enough, it is selected back to on, when I never went there and turned them on. I would find it hard to believe that the possibility of me fumbling with my phone would specifically turn back on the read receipts on these occasions. None of the other settings have been toggled ever. So I find this extremely unusual, and wondering if this is a common problem. When it happens, I go back to settings, and toggle them on, then back off, and then restart my phone. But then they eventually turn back on.... Please help...

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like one or more of your contacts are seeing a read receipt when you have them disabled, correct? If so, we would love to help see if we can get the issue resolved for you.

Would you mind asking the contact precisely what they see, or for a screenshot so you can verify that it isn't just showing that the message was delivered?

No need to send us the screenshot, but please tell us what you see. Sometimes there is confusion there, as a message showing as delivered is easily confused for a confirmation that it was read.

Also, is the issue only happening with a specific contact and over cellular or Wi-Fi?

Lastly, have you tried restarting your device followed by testing to see if you are still noticing the same issue? If not, please give that step a try and let us know the outcome.
