After updating to iOS 15.6.1, when I click on an email link, all Safari tabs disappear

After updating to iOS 15.6.1, whenever I click on an email link from gmail all of my Safari tabs disappear on my iPad Pro 2018 and are replaced by the email opened tabs. I have replicated this problem over and over and over. Why is this happening?

I have checked all of the normal ways of finding hidden windows to see if they are just hidden, but every method leads to only the open tabs from the clicked emails.

I restored all the tabs I lost by creating a tab group and can get them back that way. But still, it’s annoying to have to go that route.

Is anyone else having this same issue?

This seems like a bug. Apple, please fix it!

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

If you want to, you can send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner. Pick the closest topic you can find.
