Why can't I download and install older versions of OS that I have had on my MacBook Pro?

How can I download an older version of OS? I get a download failed error or an error stating my computer is already up to date depending on the version I try to download. I am trying to download pervious versions I have had on my computer. Every video I watch on you tube makes it sound so easy be I keep getting errors. What am I doing wrong?

You can download versions of macOS going back to whatever version shipped with your Mac. However, to install them you would have to erase your current version and use a Bootable Installer to install them.
