Mac stopped added contacts (I use a Google Contacts account)

I've noticed quite some time that contacts both on my Mac and iPhone is flakey. I use a Google Contacts account not iCloud.

On my Mac For quite some time, I have noticed that I would have to enter a contact multiple times before it would record it. Lately, it won't add it at all. I enter all the contact information and it briefly shows the new contact on the left listing and then it disappears.

On my iPhone, for years I've noticed that adding notes in Contacts is flaky. I'd add a note to a contact, close the edit and the note disappears. I've gotten into the habit of copying the note before I close so that I can re enter it when it disappears. Eventually it captures it.

I see this is happening to others. Come on Apple. Very frustrating.
