Sorting in Numbers

So I am creating a roster for a basketball team and trying to sort the roster by jersey number from smallest to largest. The sort feature seems to be sorting it based on grouping the numbers by the leading number. I am attaching picture for reference. Ideally I would want the numbers to go 1, 3, 5, 10, 14, 22, 30, 45, 50...etc.....

But the numbers are grouping based on the leading number so I am stuck with 1, 10, 12, 14, 2, 22, 23, 24, etc......

What am I doing wrong??

Your 'numbers' are being sorted using the sort rules for text.

Note that all of the 'numbers' (and the # in row 1) are aligned to the left side of the column, the default alignment for text values.

The most likely cause is that the cells in the column containing the 'numbers' have their data format set to 'text'

Select the whole column, Click on the Format button, choose Cell, and change the Data format setting to Number.

Then sort the table ascending on the values in column A:

Note that you can do the sort using the Edit menu, or by placing the pointer in the column reference tab for column A, then clicking the wide v to open a local menu for that column:
