How to see thumbnails in Browser Filmstrip view (as opposed to filmstrips)

I've imported 2 clips into an event. List view in the browser window displays correctly. But when I switch to filmstrip view, I only see very long filmstrips which obliterate the window, making it useless (screenshot is attached via an Imgur link below.)


Isn't there a way to see thumbnails of the clips in the browser window? I've worked on training exercises, and that's how it worked. But in this case, all I can get are long filmstrips.

Click on the Clip Appearance icon in the upper right of the browser and move the time slider (which control how much of the clip you see) to the left:
