Why does Safari refresh the webpage when I zoom in on iPhone?

I am having an issue where the webpage that I am viewing constantly refreshes when I pinch to zoom in.

This happens on sites such as Instagram and Twitter, where I try to zoom in to view images and it reloads the page or crashes the webpage and shows an error message.

is there any way to stop this happening, or is this a feature of the design on the Safari browser on iPhone?

iPhone SE, iOS 15

Hi there StewartB85,

We can provide some guidance. Is this only happening on Instagram and Twitter in Safari? If so, you may be inadvertently tapping something on the page that causes it to reload. The zoom options for different websites can vary.

If you're seeing error messages and Safari is crashing, try clearing your browsing history with these steps:

Clear website data
You can clear website data occasionally to improve Safari performance.
1. Go to Settings > Safari.
2. Tap Clear History and Website Data.
3. Tap Clear History and Data to confirm.

If the issue persists, work through the remaining suggestions here: If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care.
