Macbook Air stuck at firevault after software update

Hello, I just decided to update my macbook air M1, after the update finished downloading, I was asked to unlock my computer and a pop up for Firevault showed up, it asked me if I wished to run it. I selected « Back » instead of « Continue » and it has been loading for awhile now. I have no way of leaving the oage or canceling my choice. This is not the first time this happened: the first time I decided to update my software I was redirected to the same Firevault pop up and I clicked « Continue », and it kept loading just like now so I had to force restart my macbook. When I turned it on again, the software was not updated. Can anyone explain the issue and help me out? Thank you!

Hi kenza244,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

If you choose to move forward with FileVault, but change your mind, it can cause this behavior. Enabling fileVault will take time to encrypt the drive. You would need to wait for encryption to complete. If you have chosen not to proceed, force restart your Mac with Command + Control + Power button.

Once you're back to your desktop, you can enable FileVault in System Preferences.

  1. "Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.
  2. Click the FileVault tab.
  3. Click Locked, then enter an administrator name and password.
  4. Click Turn On FileVault."

You can find this and additional details in Use FileVault to encrypt the startup disk on your Mac.

Regards.
