I'm using a 2020 Mac Mini, Monterey, M1 Chip. I like the idea of keeping the Mac clean so I tried "Clean My Mac" --- not a good experience (understatement).
Can someone point to me to a good source (article?) about Mac "housekeeping"? For example, is it safe and helpful to periodically delete all the files in /Library/Caches/ ?
Any advice appreciated.

There are a large number of regular contributors here in this forum, some of our most knowledgeable folks in fact, are pretty close in age to you, and some of them are older. So, I never assume that age is a reason for people not to be technically inclined (if it's something that interests them).
And, Tom Lehrer is brilliant. And still alive at 94!
Part of my tale of woe is that it took me soooooooo long to move from MS to Apple; would that I'd been enlightened earlier.
We got our first computers in 1982 -- they had 20 MBs hard drives, and we thought how would we ever fill up all that space.

Caches -- a few years ago an Apple Tech Advisor suggested I periodically delete the /library/caches/ folder as a way to help my then Mac's performance. Is that good advice for a Mac Mini with Monterey and the M1 chip?

I do use a USB connected keyboard, also a USB dongle Logitech mouse.
Strange the option I'm looking for doesn't appear.
I have never done any housekeeping on any of my Macs in over 30 years. None of them have had any problems.
Your experience with Norton was much like mine with Clean My Mac. However, I can't attribute that to my being "young and foolish" since I'm long past young.
