sound will not work on maps apple car play in my new car

I am trying to use maps in car play but sound will not work, only the map directions.

Car Play not giving navigation voice directions on Apple Maps I own a Mazda CX9 and my husband has an iPhone XR and I have a 13. His phone had no audio on GPS for Apple Car Play but mine has no problem. I think it might be an apple bug with the XR’s. I took the advice of some of the comments and switched over to Waze for him. Sure enough, audio worked on Waze and I am sure Google. So it does not work with Apple Maps. I guess we will have to wait for a fix.

App Music insists on automatically playing while I'm using the maps app! I wanted to be able to hear the Apple Map spoken directions through my car speakers via bluetooth. But Apple Music INSISTED on playing in-between the directions making it impossible to have a conversation with someone else in the car. I searched the net for HOURS to find a solution. I chatted with Apple support and got no satisfaction. But I figured it out myself. The problem was not so much with my iPhone or Apple Music as it was with MY CAR! I have a 2015 Toyota Camry. I went into the CAR'S bluetooth settings and found two options. Connect as a phone and connect as a media player. I disabled "connect as a media player" and VOILA! - now I can hear the directions clear as day without Apple Music or Apple Podcasts automatically blasting back on. When I want the music back again I will just reconnect to my car as a "media player"

google maps not giving verbal directions in car I use google maps for navigation in my car. Recently it won't give verbal directions so I have to follow on the map. I have tried in in my house and once I click on start I immediately get verbal directions but this doesn't happen when I'm in the car. I've checked that maps doesn't somehow get muted or that the sound is on high. - Anyone got any ideas to fix this?

Hello llzade,

CarPlay is a great feature of your vehicles infotainment system and iPhone. From the description, it sounds as though you're able to hear turn-by-turn directions with CarPlay. If so, are you not getting audio for traffic conditions, estimated travel time, or something else? If you're not getting turn-by-turn directions, turn on Location Services for Maps in Settings > Privacy > Location Services, make sure Location Services is on, then tap Maps to confirm Location Services is enabled for the app as well.
