when i switch my trackpad from ipad to mac why do i have to forget device?

When i switch my trackpad from ipad to mac and back, why do i have to “forget device?”

2019 MacBook Pro and 2019 IPad Air - latest OS / IOS.

Imagine my delight when I realised I could use my Magic Trackpad to scroll up and down the IPad to read the news apps on a stand in front of me? I’d only been using the trackpad for my MacBook Pro before.

Trouble is, I have to “Forget This Device” and re-pair when I swap back from the iPad to the laptop, and vice Verda. Handoff, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi are On.

Tedious! Can you help, please?

Hi TJK - big apologies - I should have said : I never use the trackpad with the macbook and Ipad at the same time. One is always off, when the other is on. An example of how it should work is when using my air pods with the mac, and then the Ipad - you don't have to Forget This Device to use them one after the other. In fact (I've just learned about this) I think Handover allows you the chance to use a trackpad with macbook and Ipad simultaneously, by the way.

But bless you for your reply. If anything else occurs, do get in touch. T
