How to I turn off the lock out feature on my iPhone?

Sometimes when I go for a run if my phone gets jostled in my pocket or bag it will think I'm trying to unlock it... after a certain number of failed attempts it completely locks me out and this weekend I was forced to erase and reset the entire phone. This was a massive inconvenience so I'd love to find a way to avoid in the future.

Of course my screen is shut off when I'm running and I make sure its turned away from my body so I'm still not even sure what made it think I was trying to sign into it during my run, it appears to be too sensitive so how can I avoid/shut off the lock-out feature?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 15

I don't know that there's a way to turn off the lockout feature. You can let Apple know it's something you'd like to see here:

Product Feedback - Apple

But, given that I believe it used to be an option and Apple removed it, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Because I hate things banging around, I've always used a very small, flat, waist pouch that has pretty much only room for my phone, a key, and a bit of money. I've never had a problem with the phone thinking I was trying to unlock it.

If that's not an option for you, perhaps a folio cover that protects the screen from being touched might work.
