avoid triggering iPhone unavailable

I carry my iphone 12 Pro in my front pocket. When I'm exercising a lot it gets sweaty and I often find my phone locked with an "iPhone Unavailable" screen. It seems like the screen is too sensitive when damp. How can I avoid triggering this locking function or adjust it somehow so my phone remains available? I'm paranoid that sometime it will exceed the number of attempts and lock permanently.

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 17

Turn off tap-to-wake, or always face the display away from your body, or get a case with a screen cover, or get an arm band for carrying the phone, among other potential options.

My iPhone is showing iPhone unavailable. What can I do to make my iPhone 12 Pro Max available without using computer?

In general, a local reset (on iOS 15.2 or later), use of a Mac or PC, or a trip to Apple, are your options.

You don’t seem to have iOS 15.2 or later on that iPhone, so no local reset is available.

With no local Mac or PC, you’ll want to make an appointment at Apple.

As is shown on that display, support.apple.com/passcode explains your options.
