MacBook Pro documents folder empty when I switched user

Hi everyone,

I've created a new user account on my MacBook Pro and the Documents folder is now empty. How do I resolve this and see my files?

Desktop and Documents folders have disappeared I opened my Mac to see my entire desktop empty. If I try to access my desktop or documents files through finder, I get this message: "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Desktop” can’t be found." I have tried several fixes, including: Removing and reading the two folders on the finder sidebar Redownloading MacOS through recovery mode Doing a first aid check on the utility list Turning off the iCloud desktop and documents sync Accessing my Mac through safe mode My iCloud desktop and documents folders are also empty for some reason. The files don't exist in my user folder anymore, either. I don't know what to do. I am stupid, so I don't have a time machine backup either. All my files are in these two folders, so I dont want to do a full reset, but if that will fix the problem, I will do it as a last resort. I'm on an M1 Mac with OS 13.4.1

All my files are gone because of icloud drive sync Hi all, So I decided to update my Mac Book Pro OS then for some reason that i do not know, all my desktop and documents file/folders got synced into icloud Drive which i really don't want it to happen. So it I stop the syncing from System preferences -> Apple ID -> icloud drive, all the files and folders will disappear from local OS( local desktop and documents) is there any way to get my files? i don't want to download them manually from icloud.com because even if i did that and turn of icloud drive sync the files will disappear again! imma cry now :( Please need you help.

Hi Kingy75,

All of your documents and files are isolated to your first (original) user account on your Mac. They aren't accessible in the second user account in order to preserve privacy. This system allows multiple users to use your Mac, as long as each of them has a user account of their own.

If you're trying to transfer your content from your original user account to a new one, please let me know and why you want to do this.

What were you expecting to find in Documents? It will remain empty until you put something in it.
