Hello, I have an brand new 9th generation iPad never open that I bought during Christmas. I am trying to find out if I’m able to upgrade it at an apple store. it was purchased at Best Buy and the grace period is over with to do an exchange.
Unless purchased directly from Apple - and exchanged within 14-days of initial purchase - Apple will not entertain a product exchange. Being a current iPad, it also doesn’t qualify for Apple’s trade-in programme.
Perhaps consult your retailers return and exchange policy - as it they that sold the iPad that you’d rather replace.

As the iPad9 is a current model, it is unlikely that it qualifies for the trade-in programme - but for your country/region you can check here:
Ne aware that trade-in values are, at best, considerably lower than the retail price that was paid during initial purchase.
I do have the option to do a trade in on a newer iPad correct?
