macbook charger shows red light until switched on

I just got my M1 MacBook Pro 1 month ago and have charged it three times ever since. I've noticed that the red light doesn't become green until I switch on my Macbook to check on it. I left my Macbook charging for a couple of hours and since it still showed red, I thought it wasn't fully charged and decided to leave it alone. However, I started to worry after it was still showing red, so I decided to switch my Macbook on and once it turned on, it immediately turned green and shows fully charged. This has happened every time I charge it and I'm starting to work.

Why doesn't the cable turn automatically green? Did I do something under battery preferences to make it act this way?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.5

If you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on battery only.
