the light on my charge cord is orange, not green

Amber indicates actively deep-charging. When battery charge level approaches 92 percent or better, the color may change to green, indicating power adapter is connected, but no longer deep charging.
The computer is in control of the entire charging operation. The color of the indicator is set by a command from the computer.
