Why does Wifi calling drop out suddenly?

I need to use Wifi calling at my home with my iPhone 12mini. Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, it just drops out. Later, it comes back again.

Meanwhile, my wife's old iPhone SE keeps its wifi calling all the way through. We're both on the same router and same apple account.

I've tried all the usual stuff- turning wife calling on and off, resetting the network settings, turning mobile data on and off, resetting the router and nothing stops it happening. Then, for no apparent reason, Wifi calling comes back again - by which time I've missed a couple of important calls, of course.

What am i doing wrong?

PS. I've just looked at my iPhone and - guess what? - wifi calling is back! This is SOOO annoying.

I realise that but my wife and I both have the same carrier (Virgin mobile), the same router and broadband provider (Vodafone) , the same apple account. The only difference that I can find is that, for some reason, my wife's APN settings in the Mobile Data Network section of Mobile Data settings is wap.vodafone.co.uk whilst mine is goto.virginmobile.uk

Could this have something to do with it?
