Email images not downloading over wifi

Since the latest update, my old iPhone 6s has stopped downloading images etc in emails while connected to wifi. It works fine if I switch to 4g. I’ve looked at settings and there is nothing about remote images etc in messages.

Hey Bizmuth,

Have you tested downloading images through Mail on a different Wi-Fi network? Isolating the issue between your home Wi-Fi network and another is a good step towards removing the issue. Are other devices able to download through your current Wi-Fi network? Have you restarted the iPhone since first noticing the behavior?

Restart your iPhone

Hey Bizmuth,

Does this occur with all emails sent to you or just specific emails from your contacts? Have you had a chance to test this further on your work's Wi-Fi network? If not, we'd certainly test that out to be sure the issue isn't related to your home Wi-Fi network. That is a good isolation step.

You can also close the Mail app, with these steps: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support Then attempt to restart the device to make sure that the saved state didn't impact the ability to download these images.

Hoping to hear how it goes, take care.

Hi Bizmuth,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! If you're experiencing an issue specifically when connected to Wi-Fi, we would recommend the steps in the following article that may help, testing after each step:

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won't connect to a Wi-Fi network

Additionally, if you're using any security or VPN software, test by temporarily uninstalling the software (not just disable), restart your device, then test again.

We would also suggest the guidance in the following resources that can also help:

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

Hi Bizmuth,

From the details you have provided, this could be an issue with your router settings. We provided this ink earlier, but it may be a good idea to review the recommended settings to see if there is anything you need to adjust.

You can also reach out to your internet service provider for additional assistance with settings.

Mom of that applies. It is only my iPhone that is doing it and only since the latest software/security update. My phone connects to the wifi fine and I can use Facebook, Google etc. it is only when I am using mail and trying to download pictures, attachments etc that it won’t work. It is not related to not connecting to wifi etc. I’m also not using any additional security or vpm.

Ok. This is getting curious. I tried another wifi source and it worked! It appears to only be when I connect to my virgin wifi that images etc do not appear in my emails (all of them, not just certain ones) I switched to another router, which is actually connected to my virgin hub and it worked. There appears to be some sort of security protocol or whatever that is stopping emails loading properly. Again, this is only happening on my iPhone and only since the latest firmware update.
