Flag contacts as Private or Business on iPhone

Hi there,

I use my iPhone for personal matters but I also get business related calls once or twice a day. I don't have too many business contacts, but I'd like to somehow flag them or separate them from my personal contact list. Ideally, I'd be able to also block those numbers on the weekend or assign a different ringtone.

I can't seem to find a way to pull that off on the iPhone although it seems like the most basic feature.

What am I missing?

Thank You :-)

Hello,

Hmm, start by using Contract Groups:

Create and manage groups of contacts on iCloud.com - Apple Support

Also when you create a new contact be sure to enter the number as a business number vs a personal number etc.

Lastly, and most important, consider the use of an eSim for a separate business number. See this:

Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support

Good luck.

Ah so I have to do it on the computer and log in to icloud.com and add those groups from the browser?

That's pretty odd, but probably the reason why I couldn't find a solution to this problem on my iPhone.

Ok I tried it and it works, thank you for your help! Now I can filter for contacts by group on iPhone which is better than nothing, but the UI is pretty clumsy. Looks like this hasn't been a priority in the last couple years.

It's funny, I think my Nokia back in 2002 could handle contact groups, kind of weird Apple makes you jump through loops to get there :-)

how do I flag a contact? there must be a way. this seems to be very basic feature. I can flag an email, a task, etc... why not a contact?? im a business man, a sales guy by nature. everyday I have people to follow up with in some manner, I need to email them or text them or call them. why can't I flag a contact? I know, I know, you have groups. I can create a group called follow up right? but why can't we just flag a contact? I want to open my group called customers and see the flagged contacts at the top, and go through each one to complete the follow up. we should even be able to flag and date. so for example, on Sept 13, 2022 I can open up contacts, go through my different groups, and see who I need to contact that day. I might tell someone, "I'll follow up with you in 30 days to check on project X." well then I could flag that contact with a date of 30 days later, and in 30 days that flagged contact shows up as flagged and I know to call or text or whatever.
