Any way to track stolen iPhone 4 without having previously installed an app

Hi, I've had my iPhone 4 stolen.

I've not got a mobile me subscription, (but I'd buy one if it meant I could track the phone?) and haven't installed any third party tracking app either.

Is there any way it could be tracked? It seems silly that my network can send a shutdown signal, to essentially "brick" the phone unless it's recovered, but can't have the device report it's location...

Thanks.

I lost my iPhone 3G as well yesterday. Know that it's an old phone but still got alot of things stored inside. I don't have mobileme apps installed (which it will be useless if thief take out the simcard & reset the setting based on all comments).

Hope to get professional / experts advice if there's anyway we can find back our stolen iPhone using IMEI @ Serial No.

Hope can at least get to know by 'buddy' current location.

Did you bother reading the thread you replied to? There is no app to install to make an iDevice trackable.

Again, did you read the thread you replied to or any other the thousands of others that were found? Obviously a search was done or this thread would not have been found.

Why do people insist on being stupid and asking the same idiotic question that has already been answered?????????????

The first thing any sensible thief would do is remove the SIM. While carriers CAN block IMEIs, they don't. They don't care who owns the phone; they get revenue from it regardless. And they can only block it on their network, not all networks. If your phone was stolen it is gone. Period. You won't get it back. Most stolen phones are shipped to another country.

Firstly, I handle 200+ insurance claims for stolen mobiles per month. Once the SIM card has been removed by the 'recipient' the mobile is no longer traceable. If you don't report it stolen then you will possibly get a rather large bill. Most mobiles that remain in Europe & USA become inoperable once the IMEI is blacklisted by the network (carrier). Check out website called Recipero who also run Immobilise. IMEI's can be traced by the authorities (with the networks help) if it involves very serious crimes.
